Development of U-17 Soccer World Champions

The young soccer promises of Mexico have won the U-17 World Cup this summer. These kids have such promising futures, impulsing Mexican soccer to grow. These players are geniuses that must train as such. Ricardo ‘Tuca’ Ferretti, the Tigres UANL trainer, told the press: “The kid is U-17, and he will join his category, that is all I have to comment”, about Jorge Espiricueta a U-17 champion (PasiónSports). ‘Tuca’ thinks that the players should have a strict development in their careers, that they should train in their respective categories and that they should not jump to higher categories. Ferretti is right, you don’t teach a baby to walk before crawling, much less teach him to run. But, what about prodigy children, how can they finish a PhD at the age of 12 without passing through college, highschool, or even junior highschool.

When we talk about the U-17 world champions we talk about prodigy children, geniuses in their respective field, soccer. This is the main reason why the Mexican soccer doesn’t develop as fast as the European or the South American soccer. In that countries the trainers debut players at their early 17, so they would be capable to develop faster than other players. That’s what happened with today’s best soccer player in the world, Lionel Messi, which also happened with the best soccer player of all time, Pele. These great players both debuted before they were 17 years old, which took them to their great soccer careers.

Returning to the theme, maybe U-17 champions should not debut in professional soccer but should go to higher categories, even maybe train with their club’s first team, as Raúl ‘Potro’ Gutiérrez said. At the end, the base of U-17 team is the future of the Mexican soccer, and if we don’t let them develop we are destroying their talent.

I left the link of a great goal of Jorge Espiricueta in the Semifinal of the U-17 World Cup:

  1. Hello there!
I agree with you, Mexican soccer does not progress in a significant way because it is nor supported enough (just as many other sports, arts and cultures!). I'll keep following you to see whether or not your theory is right! I still have some hopes for our soccer teams ...

  2. Very good comment Goyo, I agree with you.
We need to support the prodigy children.
At a glance in the world, we can see that there's many people with different talent or superior skills.

  3. I like the article... I agree that developing high skills takes time, even more time, dedication, resources, structure, infrastructure and a team of coaches, directive and technical knowledge/expertise to fully sustain a world level competitive team as such.

I admire all those teenagers who won the world cup U-17.
It's a shame that these boys cannot start their debuts at 17, as those in Europe.
I hope someday these young prodigies could have the opportunity to begin a soccer carrer as young as those famous soccer players did.

    Nice web blog, keep posting!

  5. It’s great that you made an special blog to put the right amount of importance because what those boys did here in Mexico was really important and astonishing, they gave Mexico their second world cup championship in that category. You focus on a special player that won the ball of silver this prize is given to the second best player in the category, the player is Jorge Espiricueta. This young player promises a great future in the sport of soccer and right now he plays for the team Tigres here at Monterrey. In my opinion I differ with your point because you want that the coach from the team Ricardo Ferreti to jump Espircueta all the divisions below to play in the first category team. A strong reason that maybe this is a good idea is that he showed in the last world cup that he has the right amount of ability to play in every team. I believed although he did what few people can do to win a world cup, that doesn’t occur every day, which he should wait for his time to come to appear on the first category, this is because every person needs to wait for its right time.
